Resident Applications

The purpose of the Residency is to allow writers/artists space to further develop work in progress or produce new work. Creatives may apply for short residencies of up to 7 days at Roger and Laura’s gorgeous property in Warleggan, Cornwall.

We request that Residents:

  • Provide one copy of a recent publication. This will be kept in the bookshelves of Cyprus Flat for reading by other Residents and holiday visitors.

  • Acknowledge the Residency in future work inspired by the Residency. The wording should include the phrase - "Cathy Rozel Farnworth, host of the Roger and Laura Farnworth Arts Residency in partnership with the Bodmin Moor Poetry Festival"

Cathy Farnworth will purchase two more copies of existing publications to place in Pandia Cottage and Patio Flat, both holiday lets, for the enjoyment of visitors.


Call for Applications

  1. The Roger and Laura Farnworth Arts Residency is organised and managed by Bodmin Moor Poetry Festival and Cathy Rozel Farnworth (the 'Organisers') with funding from Arts Council England.

  2. Only one residency per year per person/couple is permitted.

  3. Three or four residencies will be offered per year.

Application Criteria

  1. Applicants should be resident in the UK. Preference will generally be given to applicants resident in - or with links to - the southwest of England. 

  2. Applicants who declare that they are of limited means will be preferred. 

  3. Applicants should be able to demonstrate some initial success in their field – for instance, publication in pamphlet form by a recognised press or reputable magazines for poets/writers; exhibition/s by visual artists. Residents are chosen by the Organisers upon formal application. The Organisers' decision is final, and no discussion will be entered into regarding selection for a Residency.

  4. One referee should write in support of the applicant’s artistic work, the other should provide a character reference and be able to attest, if applicable, that the applicant is of limited means. 


Application Process

  1. Applicants must apply by email by submitting a short CV, a letter of application, examples of their work (five poems, six pages of prose, or six examples of visual art-work), and full contact details for two referees. 

  2. Applicants must outline in their application letter why they want to take up the Residency. 

  3. Applications from couples (artists/writers) and individual applications will be considered. 

  4. Applications to be made via email to david.westwords@clara.co.uk with a copy to cathyfarnworth@hotmail.com.
